Coming from Brisbane, Australia I conducted a worldwide search of flight
schools and decided upon Florida Aviation Academy to train with. The school
offered a program that best suited my requirements; value for money,
concentrated timeframes, with an eye for safety and development of
“professional” pilots. Additional support available from fellow students,
instructors, and school management was unexpected and being a long way from
home it is great to have.

After ten flight days of training, 15 training flights, and 24.3 hours time
in the aircraft I completed my first solo flight. Another number I can add
is the 4 litres of water I was covered with after getting back to the
ground.

While this is a small step in the journey, it is a huge leap in fulfilling
my lifelong dream of becoming a pilot.

Get ready for the pilot shortage. All numbers are pointing to a massive pilot shortage in the next couple of years. I have been getting a lot of questions from students and others about the job market and the conditions of working as an airline pilot. I tell everyone the same thing. The jobs will be plentiful and the conditions are already improving. Supply and demand is a great predictor. The economy is always dependent on supply versus demand unless of course you live in a country where the word capitalism is always accompanied by an expletive. Pilots who are qualified will be able to write their own ticket for the foreseeable future anywhere in the world.

Recent Business Week article talks about American Airlines in particular, however all airlines are facing the same pilot shortage problem and it will reverberate around the world.

I tell students that the objectives now are to get qualified and hired with a good company to build seniority. Seniority is job security. Anyone getting in the pilot game today should have no problem landing a job with their dream company.

Now is the time for anyone interested in an aviation career to explore the opportunities. Once upon a time there were plenty of pilots, however today there is a growing need that is expected to continue to expand for the next 20 years. Qualified pilots are likely to find plenty of opportunities over the coming years.

Certainly there are all sorts of job titles within the aviation industry. These include jobs for skilled technicians, traffic controllers, and flight attendants. Still, it is the pilots that are in demand. Whether training is obtained thought military experience or though a civilian school such as Florida Aviation Academy, certified pilots are likely to find their skills in high demand.

Lots of people are interested in flying because they view the lifestyle as exciting. This can be accurate, however many are interested due to the stability and the financial rewards. Pilots can and do make a good living. Salaries on the low end are approximately 30 thousand dollars a year, and it is possible to make well into the six figure range.

The Captain of the Boeing 707 boomed out over the speakers “bring the children to the cockpit”. I was 5 or 6 years old, and I made my way up the row to the beckoning flight attendant who was standing outside this door that led to where the pilots were. When my turn came and I walked through I was mesmerized. I only remember the lights and the buttons and switches. I could not even imagine how anyone could remember what it all meant. It was night and I was in little boy heaven. I don’t remember talking or even what was said but when I walked back to my seat I thought of nothing else for the next 20 years.

Little did I know that my life had changed from that point forward. I wanted to be a pilot. It was clear to me, and there was never any doubt. My destiny had been mapped out.

Dreams have a way of materializing sometimes. Most people have thought about what it must be like to learn to fly. If you want to know then just talk to a pilot. Pilots cant wait to tell you what it’s like. The day your instructor says you are ready to be alone for your first solo flight is a day no one ever forgets. I remember every second of mine. I waved to Mr Pappi and I taxied to the end of the runway. The controller told me I was cleared for takeoff. I throttled up and the plane started rolling. I did what I was trained to do and at the right speed I pulled back and I left the ground. I wondered if they could hear my roars in the tower and on the ground. I was flying. On my own. It took 18 years from my first time in a cockpit and now this. No more dreaming. I did it and so can anyone. I look back at it now and see it through the eyes of an airline captain. The airbus 300, Boeing 747 and now the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 are three of the aircraft in which I am rated.

Flight training today is a well organized structured process where all the benefits of past lessons are put together to teach future airline professionals how to be safe pilots. The first step is to get in contact with a recognized aviation academy. An aviation career can only prosper when the aviation flight school has a history of building those careers. From the Private Pilot certificate through Instrument flying and commercial flying Florida Aviation Academy has done what most aviation colleges cannot. We offer accelerated programs that combine aviation ground school and flight training simultaneously. It keeps the cost low when this building block method of teaching is used. You come out of the flying simulator straight to the aircraft where you can transfer your knowledge positively and build on the previous lesson.

So If your dream is to have a private pilot license then Florida Aviation Academy will guide you there. If your dream is to be a captain in an airline then there is an American school of aviation I know, will train you to be the best you can be. The dreaming is over. Start training.

Florida Aviation Academy offers the career pilot the opportunity to train and eventually to teach at our school. In effect your career has already started when you walk through the door. All of our graduates that went on to work for our school are now working for airlines all over the world. Our credentials are proven and our results have given us a legacy to be proud of.

The Aviation industry is about to go through an incredible upsurge in demand. Over the last 11 years it has been stagnant. The salaries were reflective of the over capacity and the waning economy. The lack of credit access by the traditional lenders for flight training has prevented the pilots that are needed today to be trained. The Aviators from the Korean and Vietnamese conflicts are retiring en masse. Five years ago the retirement age went from 60 to 65 which means that all those pilots who were about to retire did not at that time. They will now have to retire and that, with the normal attrition rates will increase demand dramatically.

As an aviation insider I can tell you that already the demand is increasing. Pilot are leaving companies now to go somewhere with better compensation packages. This hasn’t happened in years. The pilots that are trained in the next 10 years will set themselves up for great careers with great companies. The Aviator today is a highly trained, highly skilled pilot flying state-of- the art aircraft. The time is now.

Start your career now.
